The recent signing of the historic peace agreement between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia at the White House , under the auspices of U.S. President Donald J. Trump, is a moment of immense significance for the South Caucasus. After decades of conflict, displacement, and suffering, this accord marks the beginning of a new era,  rooted in peace, stability, and mutual cooperation.

Prime Minister of Pakistan’s words aptly reflect this sentiment: “Pakistan welcomes the historic peace agreement… This landmark development marks the dawn of a new era… We congratulate President Ilham Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on this historic agreement, that reflects wisdom, foresight, and sagacity.” Pakistan’s message is not just diplomatic courtesy, it is a reaffirmation of a brotherly bond that has stood strong through every trial and triumph.

As a Pakistani, I feel deeply proud and happy to see peace taking root in the Caucasus. Pakistan has always stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Azerbaijan in all seasons whether in the diplomatic arena, on global platforms, or in expressing unwavering support for their just cause. This peace is not only a win for Azerbaijan; it is a victory for all nations that believe in justice and regional harmony.

It is important to recognize that the Karabagh War was the turning point that set the stage for this historic development. The bravery and sacrifice of Azerbaijan’s soldiers its martyrs and Ghazis will forever be remembered as the foundation upon which this peace was built. Their courage reclaimed not only territory but also national dignity. We pray for their souls and salute their families, who bear the honor of their sacrifice.

The role of Türkiye’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was also pivotal. His steadfast support, both during and after the Karabagh conflict, ensured that Azerbaijan’s voice remained strong and its position secure on the international stage. This strategic brotherhood between Azerbaijan and Türkiye has been a stabilizing force, and its impact is visible in today’s outcome.

While this agreement brings hope, it must also bring a lasting commitment from all sides to protect peace. The South Caucasus has too long been a theater of war, it must now become a bridge of trade, cultural exchange, and shared prosperity. Let this accord stand as a warning to those who seek to ignite old disputes: the era of aggression must end, and the future must belong to dialogue and cooperation.
