The rise of social media has created new forms of collective environments that lack physical proximity but still produce crowd-like effects. Online platforms enable individuals to express opinions within large, often anonymous audiences, leading to behavioral patterns similar to those observed in physical crowds.

In Türkiye, individuals may use harsher language or express stronger opinions on social media than they would in face-to-face interactions. From an individualistic psychology perspective, this behavior is linked to altered perceptions of accountability and visibility.
